Bina’s Keepsake Box and Why Crafting is the Best Form of Gift Giving! by banglewoodcrafts on May 19, 2014

What made me start the keepsake box?
I started the keepsake box because I wanted Lori to have a special place to store all of her cards & letters.

What supplies did I use?
I got all of my supplies form Michael’s craft store & eBay (wooden box, acrylic paint, foam/paint brushes, Mod Podge, 3D stickers, iron on patches Yankees, Derek Jeter, Syracuse Orange w/mascot & Logo).

How did you feel creating it?
I was very excited creating this gift for Lori. It’s been on my mind for a while to make it though.  I just decided to do it now for her Birthday because to me a gift made from the heart and out of love is far more personal than buying one out of the store.
How long did it take to create it?
Not very long, about 2 or 3 weeks only because I took my time with it and plus I had to wait for everything  (The iron-on  patches) to come in the mail.
How long have I been crafting? What’s your favorite craft?
I haven’t been crafting long, the 1st thing I did was a scrapbook of our  2012 Summer vacation to NYC, I was actually supposed to do a book for myself but after doing the books for Lori & another friend I was tired of seeing glue dots, pictures and card-stock paper so I never did one for myself. The scrapbooks were Christmas gifts to them that same year.  I actually liked making the scrapbooks & the keepsake box because those were sentimental gifts. Looking forward to my next craft (I have a few ideas) they will mostly be gifts for friends.
What do you think Lori’s reaction to the box will be?
I’m hoping she will be excited & surprised all at the same time, even though she knows I am making her something, she has no clue as to what it is.
How long have you been friends with Lori?
Lori & I have been friends for 4 years, we met on a message board for a couple we watched on OLTL “Bo & Nora”  but it feels like a lifetime.
What does your friendship mean to you?
My friendship with Lori means to world to me. She is truly a Blessing in my life. I tell her all the time, if I could hand pick my family member she would definitely be my sista (sister).  She has been there for me more than my own siblings, more so the past year & a half. When we 1st met in 2010, Lori went out of her way to see that I had the best Christmas ever that year, since my parents passed away years ago. I lost my mom when I was 16 years old & my dad passed when I was 25 years old. So, I never really celebrated Christmas after my dad passed away. I told Lori this on the phone one day & I guess she didn’t like what I said. So, over a course of some months she would write down everything I said pertaining to things I wanted, I figured I would just get them later it was no rush on my part. When Christmas came around, maybe a couple of days later, I got a package in the mail. I opened the box on the webcam with her & one of her sisters in the background. I pulled out gift after gift after gift, I thought to myself this woman wrote down everything I’ve ever said to her in almost every conversation we’ve had and bought me everything I’ve ever mentioned.  For that I will always be grateful & Thankful that Lori is a part of my life, because she truly cares about me and has a very loving heart.  Not only did she go out of her way, so did her sisters as well. Whenever I need an ear to listen she is always there for me, even when I need to be put in my place from time to time, she also there for that too. Lori brings out the best in me. I can only pray that I can be the kind of friend to her as she has been to me. The only bad thing about is that Lori lives all the way in Syracuse, NY & I live in Hawthorne, Ca. Our summer vacation was the 1st time we met in person after meeting each other on the message board & talking back & forth on the phone, the web & of course last not least Facebook!!!

Your words brought me to tears. I have a bunch of wonderful friends but I have two in particular who are absolute God-sent blessings and I greatly appreciate them. Now, you have inspired me to make them something. :) Bina, Thanks for your words and your thoughts! – Tiff
